Combining Acoustic Rock, Pop & Electronica, Diestra Bursted into the National Music Scene by winning McDonald's "Best of Latin Music Contest", a nationwide talent search for upcoming singers and songwriters.This award launched the Bonilla Brothers (Ricardo & Luis Bonilla) into national media and awareness, fueling their relentless desire to move forward even without a record label’s support, and independently.

Their 1st album "Sin Direccion" was released February 19, 2001, Opening a lot of doors for the brothers. In November of that same year, Diestra made a special appearance and performed In front of hundreds of industry professionals in Los Angeles for a pre-Latin Grammy awards party organized by McDonald’s. Later in March 2001, Diestra appeared on TV once again debuting in Miami at the American Airlines Arena among several established acts in Latin music during UNIVISION's “Noche de Carnaval 2001”. In the midst of this, the band also filmed a TV commercial for McDonald's which aired nationally and internationally on UNIVISION’s TV Networks; the spot announced Diestra as the winners of "The Best of Latin Music Contest".

Contemplating their future, and after seeking and receiving endorsements by several musical companies such as: Marshall, Korg, Gibson, Martin Guitars, Elixir Strings, La Bella Strings, Pork Pie Drums, and Rock Hard Road Cases, In early April 2002, the band decided to leave their adopted hometown of Atlanta, and moved to Miami seeking bigger success closer to the Latin Music industry. After just a couple of months, Diestra started to perform periodically, and to get the media's attention appearing on numerous TV & radio shows.

Continuing their quest, and in preparation to write better material to follow up their previous release, they stopped playing live completely, and while their studio kept on growing, they began developing a stronger interest in music production and songwriting.

(2006)- The New Record is appropriately titled “UNA NUEVA VIDA” (a new life). Five years after their independent debut, their music has matured, and has evolved once again into another sound. Having met Donato Poveda (Donato y Estefano) influenced their way of thinking about writing songs and commercial success . This time around, they specially took time to concentrate on their songwriting, and set out to surprise everyone with songs people can sing along to. On this record Diestra teams up with producer Carlos "el loco" Bedoya (Beyonce, Weezer), the brothers co-producing once again, offering a collection of songs that are meticulously planned, and crafted from the songwriting stage to the production stage to be part of a bigger spectrum. Having recorded between Miami’s Hit Factory Criteria and their own private studio, mixed at Marteen Andruet’s private studio (Fobia, Cristian Castro), and finally mastered at New York’s Sterling Sound with George Marino (Metallica, Coldplay), This record is Rock as much as it is Pop, achieving a sound that belongs in the hearts of the general public. With this record, you could say Diestra is ready to break through, and commence a new life.
