Javier Delgado “lakambra” was born on January 24, 1980, in Barranquilla, Colombia, from a mother who loves salsa and Afro Caribbean rhythms and a father who played folkloric percussion as a hobby. Lakambra was raised surrounded by a rich mixture of musical tastes: from his father’s affinity to Colombian rhythms and his mother love for the Afro Cuban danzon, songo, son and many others. Lakambra started playing folkloric drums around the age of eight, and four years later he started Drums and music theory lessons in local academy. During his high school years he was involved in many different musical activities. At the age of fifteen Lakambra formed a six-member band called Kontroversia in which they played together for five years. Lakambra was well known in his hometown for his aggressive, elusive style and his outstanding performances. Javier moved to Miami in 1999 and it was in Miami where Lakambra started to get really deep into drum rudiments, styles and odd rhythms. In 2002 Lakambra joined Miami’s most successful band LOCOS POR JUANA while they were finishing their first album. After album release Locos Por Juana got recognition all over US, Puerto Rico and Europe. Lakambra has lately recorded and produced more than 40 songs for local artists in which Lakambra has developed his producing skills. Locos Por Juana released their second album “Musica Pal’ Pueblo” in April 2005, in which lakambra worked as co-producer. Lakambra is been touring with Locos Por Juana using his Slingerland Performing Set.
