When you listen to music, it is easy to figure out the name of a song you like, or the name of the artist who recorded it. When it comes to the people behind the music, however, you may have to search a little deeper to find information such as who has produced a certain track or CD. Reggaeton is full of outstanding producers such as DJ Joe, Eliel, Boy Wonder, and Noriega, but one set of producers stands out from the rest. It is hard to believe that Francisco Saldana (Luny) and Victor Cabrera (Tunes) started off working in a Harvard kitchen are now two of reggaeton’s leading producers. Their name can be heard in many of their productions. Together they form the dynamic duo, Luny Tunes. When asked the question, ‘Who is the best producer in reggaeton,’ Luny Tunes wins the popular vote. Unless they produce an obviously horrible CD, no matter how good the competition is, the name Luny Tunes will overshadow them all. The magic is in the quality of their music and way they market themselves in every track they produced. One of the most notable songs where their marketing genius is prevalent is in Daddy Yankee’s hit, “Cójela Que Va Sin Jockey,” where a chorus of young girls can be heard playfully singing the phrase “Luny-Tunes” in the hook of the song. The phrase has nothing to do with the subject matter of the song, but despite this, fans cannot help but sing along. At first thought, it may seem that the youth of Puerto Rico really love their cartoons; however, this is simply good marketing in action.Popular reggaeton artist, Don Omar recently produced and released Los Bandoleros this May, with claims that it would out sell Luny Tunes’ Mas Flow 2. This battle has yet to come to a head, but one thing is true; fans cannot get enough of Luny tunes. Some fans have made up their minds even before listening to the Dons new release. As a result if this, Mas Flow 2 will be the winner, hands down, and will continue give the competition a run for their money until they cease to exist.
